Bake in the oven for 40 minutes
Allow to cool completely and carefully remove from parchment paper.
Optional: serve filled with ice-cream or marmalade
Notes & Comments:
The vinegar is not necessary, but it does help to stabilize the meringue. Cream of tartar is also a good substitute.
For nicer looking meringues, you can use a piping bag. Also, you can play with the size of the meringues. The bigger they are, the more time they might require.
I personally find the bake time too short, so I turn off the oven and leave them in there for about another 2 hours.
The unbaked meringue is great on its own and can be used to top a pie or serve with desserts as an alternative to whipped cream. Put in the broiler or torch to leave a nice brown topping.
These are perfect as is, but if you want to experiment with other flavors, feel free to add cocoa powder, vanilla, or any flavor extract during the mixing stage.
